Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos. A still relatively rare cancer, its incidence is approx. one per 1,000,000, compared to lung cancer incidence due to smoking of over 1,000 per 1,000,000. (more) Lee Kuan Yew: "If I cast my mind back, I can see turning points in my physical and mental health. You know, when you're young, I didn't bother, I assumed good health was God-given and would always be there. When I was about 34, we were competing in elections, and I was really fond of drinking..." (more) Lysozyme chloride or simply, lysozyme, is an enzyme that is capable of destroying some types of bacteria. It is produced naturally as part of our innate immune system. One of the most abundant sources of lysozyme is chicken egg white. In humans, it is abundant in secretions such as mucus... more

Health IS Wealth... how many times have we heard that over and over again until we get so desensitized, our mind simply refuses to register nor acknowledge that three-worded wisdom anymore?

When we are young (or were younger, depending on who we are), it's almost invariably health chasing after wealth as we enter the rat race, running and running, rushing and rushing, not knowing why except that others are doing likewise.

As the years pass in quick succession, the reverse invariably happens and before we know it, the years of neglect finally catches up and we inevitably confronts the new prospect of wealth chasing after health. And with a grin on his face, your surgeon-doctor says, "No problem... just $10,000 and I'll get you back in perfect health again, but sign this document first".

And you scratches your head, wondering why you need to sign anything, when you have been assured that there would be no problem! Gone are the days when ambulance-chasers are confined only to lawyers, but that is not to say that there are no conscientious doctors around today... only that they are becoming a very rare breed, indeed... this much my experience tells me. With increasing materialism, the Hippocratic Oath seems so out of place, nay, even obsolete, that many doctors believe it ought to be replaced by something more relevant to our times... a Hypocritic Oath, perhaps (see also Pharmaceutical industry).

Facts about staying healthy

But for many of us, it is work as usual until we are unceremoniously carted to the nearest hospital, amidst the wail of sirens, only to be pronounced as having a myocardial infarction or a cerebrovascular accident, two high-sounding words for "heart attack" and "stroke" so that they can charge you more. And with today's lifestyles, these two diseases, together with diabetes, heart bypass, osteoporosis, and a host of cancers become what seem like an imminent and inevitable fate, if we do not try our utmost to avoid them. And we are not even talking about "strange" diseases like Alzheimer, Parkinson, chronic lung disease, and what have you.

This website is a personal journey to become more health-conscious through knowledge, although I am more than aware that there is many a gulf between knowing and doing. How many smokers do not know that smoking is bad for health, and how many times have we succumb to yet another serving when we very well know it is not good for us? Well, healthy food are never tasty, and tasty food are never healthy... or so, it always seems. Anyway, it's a start... and I hope, it will turn out to be a good start!
